Stricken with the sickness

Every now and then our household is stricken with the sickness.

It’s difficult to determine who was the first to bring it home, but it’s safe to say that everyone yearns for wellness. Each of us is hit differently. Yet, there is always one of us who seemingly makes it through without being taken down. Ella is the lucky one in this round. For the rest of us, our muscles are sore, tight and dehydrated from sitting listlessly on the couch. Fatigue slows the pace to a near standstill. I cringe each time I hear the hollow-throated coughs from Silas’ bedroom repeating late into the night.

This time round even our little dog is hurting. She “got fixed” this week. Normally, she meets us at the door with high-energy greetings. Yet, the past few days she just stood in the sunshine at the window staring blankly at nothing and incessantly shaking.

I’m writing about this today because one of the first functions that slows is creativity. At this moment, little inspires me more than the thought of the moment my immune systems battles the unwanted intruder into submission.

It could be days, or weeks, before all returns to normal. Oooooh the joys of a young family battling the flus and colds, the ups and downs.

There is no moral of this story, question to be answered or response sought. It’s just one chapter of many in our lives and, despite this, tomorrow I will wake up and get back to the Orders of the Day.

    Get well soon, Adam!

Take some time to slow down to your body’s speed. At least in my case, it’s the insistence that I remain “productive” that turns a minor malady into something really debilitating that won’t go away.
