As the dust settles on the federal election I raise my hands to all the Green Party of Canada candidates, campaign leaders, volunteers, donors and supporters. Thank you!
In the coming weeks it will be clear the how the work of federal Green Party people on the ground in ridings across the country have continued to advance the growth of the movement.
As I said a few times to the media as the results were pouring in, there is no doubt that I am disappointed that Lydia Hwitsum, Racelle Kooy and David Merner were not successful in our backyard here on Southern Vancouver Island. Thank you for putting your lives on the line and standing up for what you believe in! Wins are how success is measured on election night, however success is defined many ways and when we step back we will see that the Greens grew their support by thousands of votes ballooning the supporter base in many ridings.
Thank you Elizabeth!
I am the only Member of the Legislative Assembly who can say Elizabeth May is my constituent. It is an honour to work alongside her over the past decade. She is truly an inspiration. I look forward to continuing our work together.
While I have not read all the analysis, I did hear on election night the criticism that the outcome was a failure. Elizabeth has done an incredible job over the past 8 years of growing a party from no seats, way on the outside looking in, to three seats in the House of Commons. In addition, her principled and dedicated effort has laid the foundation for the success of provincial Green Party efforts in British Columbia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
Polls are a snapshot of a moment in time, the results of election campaigns are a reflection of six weeks of work. As I look at the full body work of Elizabeth, I lift her up with immense gratitude for being a courageous voice for change, a principled mentor and a friend.
Thank you Elizabeth and thank you to everyone who leaned in to advance these critical conversations.
