This is no laughing matter.
Ella is a very thoughtful little girl. And, currently she is in conflict.
She, and the other little girls around her, are into LOL Surprise!
The draw of the toy, is the surprise. It’s what might be underneath the layers of packaging, that draws Ella and her friends to the product.
She loves the anticipation and the teeny accessories. They play for hours, storytelling and constructing complex narratives with LOL. Admittedly, mind-blowing creativity flows from her room.
But, I have also seen similar levels of creativity inspired by three sticks on the beach.
Under layers and layers of surprise
One Saturday afternoon, Ella was participating in a stream clean-up with her Mom and brother. She found LOL packaging, (or wrapaging, as she calls it) in the stream.
Well, this set her off on a path of activism.
She likes LOL. But, she loves Mother Earth.
As she is learning, it is not as easy as just demanding LOL get better packaging. The toy is about the surprise hidden under the many layers. And, she is still trying to figure out how much blame to lay on the irresponsible human that threw the garbage in the stream.
Finally, she is learning first hand that garbage and recycling does not just disappear once it gets to the end of the driveway.
Consumer Ella wants the LOL. Conservation Ella wants to protect her Mother Earth. Activist Ella wrote a letter and demanded her Mom send it to the company. It’s on Emily’s Instagram account. Everyday Ella asks if they have responded.
It is unclear how this situation is going to resolve. She is a thoughtful and determined kid.
Perhaps, we can take comfort that our kids willingly unpack complexity, and then are determined to act!
You can help Ella get her message to MGA Entertainment, the makers of LOL Surprise!
Tweet this blog post. Write them an email. Send them a letter. Or, give them a call.
Finally, cheer on Ella to always maintain her mindfulness. We need it!

Hello There,
I just read a note from a young girl who loves your product but is also worried about all the packaging. I was wondering if you might be able to find a way to make the packaging and surprise fun while lowering the amount of packaging.
Kids these days are a lot more concerned about taking care of the earth and it would just be such a shame for them to be torn between a really cool item they like and doing the right thing.
Please help them out, could you?
