Of course not! Don’t be silly. She is a teenage climate activist from Sweden.
It’s a photo of a girl from the Yukon gold rush in 1898 that surfaced in the University of Washington archives that sparked the Internet conspiracy. Twitter made it viral.
While scrolling through the Apple-curated news stories on my phone, the story caught my attention and reminded me of a flash of inspiration I feel when thinking about Greta‘s remarkable emergence on the steps of the Swedish Parliament.
The youth climate strike started with just Greta. Just a single young woman skipping school and protesting her government’s action on climate change.
Now when she visits cities in Europe and North America tens of thousands of people, young and old, gather with her.
She is not the only person courageously speaking their mind. All around the world people are marching and demanding their governments represent them.
I’m encouraged by the likes of Greta because she is a reminder that whenever we hear that we cannot make a difference in addressing climate change, or social change, because we are a small player on a grand stage we need to think again.
Greta is just one person. All it takes is one person to inspire thousands to action. Who knows? It might your very next act of courage.
