This week I received a letter from the Honours and Awards Secretariat notifying me that nominations for the Order of British Columbia is now open.
You can find out more information about the Order of British Columbia here.
The deadline for submissions is March 6, 2020. The Secretariat has began the process early with the intention of increasing the volume of nominations of under-represented groups and people from outside the Lower Mainland.
The Order of British Columbia was established in 1989 and is the “highest form of recognition” that a citizen of our province can receive. The Order is a way to acknowledge those whose work has served the people of British Columbia with distinction and excellence.
All nominations are reviewed by an independent advisory council that is chaired by the Chief Justice of British Columbia. Only those who are nominated are considered for the Order.
In addition the Secretariat would also like to promote the Medal of Good Citizenship. There is no deadline for this award. The Medal of Good Citizenship is to recognize “individuals who have acted in a particularly generous, kind or selfless manner for the common good without the expectation of reward.”
You can find out more information about the Medal of Good Citizenship here.
I encourage you to nominate all British Columbians that you wish to recognize for their contribution to our province.
