Do you know a student currently in K-12 in British Columbia?
Her Honour Lt. Governor Janet Austin has partnered with the British Columbia Legislative Assembly to create the Democracy & Me Art Contest.
I believe it’s important to get youth participating in our democracy and encouraging them to think about how they can improve their communities and the quality of governance in our province.
There are three categories for students: K-4, 5-8 and 9-12. Each group is challenged with a question that they are to address in their work. How can I help my community? What role can I play in my democracy? What can I do to strengthen our democracy?
I hope you will share this contest and encourage all our youth to get involved. The contest is open until January 31, 2020 and prizes include a visit to the Parliament Buildings (all expenses covered) to view the unveiling of their work, lunch hosted by the Lieutenant Governor at Government House, an introduction to the Legislative Assembly and a behind-the-scenes tour of Parliament Buildings.
