Canada Day is always a busy day in Saanich North and the Islands.
The festivities start with a pancake breakfast at the Mary Winspear Centre followed by a parade through Sidney-by-the-Sea where thousands of residents of the Saanich Peninsula line the streets.
From there, Member of Parliament Elizabeth May and I take to the water for a multi-island tour of birthday cake cutting celebrations at the Show and Shine on Salt Spring, the famous lamb BBQ on Saturna and dinner at the Legion on Pender.
Not only do we get to spend time together and with our amazing constituents in the Southern Gulf Islands, we have the incredible good fortune of taking in the beauty of the Salish Sea. It’s truly an honour to represent such an amazingly diverse and beautiful riding!
School’s out for the summer!
Canada Day marks another turning point in our lives: the end of the school year. My kids are excited for summer break. While the years seem to melt away, I struggle to hold on to all the precious moments I can of my children.
So, with that in mind, over the next two weeks I am on holiday. It’s the first time since December that our family will be able to sleep in (a little), relax and enjoy undivided time and space with each other. The constituency office will be open regular hours and the staff will be still available to assist you. All the contact information to reach my team is in the footer at the bottom of this page.
In the meantime, I’m going to continue to write, read a few books, break a few routines and start a few others. My biggest effort will be to try to slow the pace of life down, because before you know it, we will be marking another Canada Day!
Happy Canada Day!
