It is a blessing to live in, and represent, a Capital city riding.
For most of my colleagues Sunday is a travel day. But, I am fortunate to be able to make it off limits in my calendar. To have any balance at all, it is important to set boundaries in the schedule. So, Sunday is off limits in mine.
Nothing ever. For example, in the past couple of weeks a coffee date here, and podcast recording there, did not go unnoticed.
One of my first blog posts following the 2017 election, is about busy-ness. No doubt, the duties of my job keep me moving, a lot of potential busy-ness. Despite that, recently I have been finding more time in my day.
It is largely the result of being more mindful about what is distracting me. That alone can create a lot of space in the day. Social media is another time sink. While the frequency of my posts is about the same, I’ve cut my scrolling time way back, freeing up a bunch of wasted time.
Conditioning a culture of consistency
A common theme through my more personal posts of late, is my deliberate attempt to condition a culture of consistency from day-to-week-to-month-to-year.
In the past, I have been sloppy and inconsistent. While I was able to make it work, it would have been better if I had more focus and discipline.
So, it is important for me to focus on discipline. So I can complete my task list as a matter of the course of the day, making it no real burden at all. Like writing this post.
In fact, it is enjoyable, because I enjoy writing this post. At first, I doubted whether there was any time left in the day to write, edit, develop and publish a blog post every day.
All of the apps on our devices, are designed to latch on and suck our attention. It’s incredible what happens when you decide to turn the screen off.
The only acceptable calendar entry on my Sunday schedule is “Family Time” and to be honest we haven’t been using this time very effectively.
That changed this afternoon. We hiked down the snow-covered trail to Mckenzie Bight in the Saanich Inlet.
It was a crisp debut, to a new tradition. And, by the way, a hike down the trail to Mckenzie Bight is well worth it!
