Showing up and executing

Emily highlighted an important point the other day which deserves attention on the record.

In a post from a few days back, I dwell on the difference between “just showing up” and “successfully executing.”

During the ride down to dinner (The Mantra Victoria restaurant on Fort Street – check it out. They make absolutely delicious Indian cuisine!) we discussed what this idea means to each of us.

For years “just showing up” was a major accomplishment for me. I could do well away from home for a few hours at a time. Often, I performed really well. Interacting with other humans has always been easy. But, afterward I crawled back into dark solitude, and it could take days for me to recover.

But, that was a lot of work ago. Years of tweaking and tuning, and then fine-tuning. Now, is a different time. It is time to “successfully execute,” hence the recent pondering on consistency.

More plan, more focus, more habit, more routine, more practice. More practice.

Emily understands it differently, and she perfectly articulated her perspective. We just see it from different angles. And, neither are incorrect.

So, the point. These posts offer only one of many brilliant and beautiful angles. It’s my hope they inspire you to think about your angle.

Thought. And, response.

Maybe just a brief pause, a comment, or a share. If they accomplish nothing other than this, they are successfully executing ????

I am thoroughly enjoying your blog posts. They are not what one typically expects from a politician. They seem honest and authentic and very human. They give me something to reflect upon. Thank you for sharing them.

Well. I am hoping we expect our politicians to be authentic and human 🙂 Thank you for your kind words.

I am trying to leave some time open each day so that I am able to fit in unexpected daily bonuses, like missing the bus and having 30 mins to contemplate nature. It has been my nature to not do this though so it is an ongoing battle.
