My mom and Tex got us four tickets to Raffi’s show at the Royal Theatre. I was excited, I’m a beluga grad so Raffi’s voice and guitar is the soundtrack of my childhood.
“The more we get together, the happier we’ll be…”
He opened with his familiar collaborative message. “The more we get together, together, the more we get together, the happier we’ll be.” The show ended with a poignant message of peace to the beluga grads in the theatre.
His music has been a joyful ride bumping up and down in a little red wagon. Eating peanut butter sandwiches made with jam. Making silly rhymes down by the bay. So this afternoon, parents and their children, sung and danced together.
An icon of beluga generations across North America, Raffi’s home is on Salt Spring Island. You can meet him at the Saturday market, where he promotes his music, books and advocacy work. He founded the Centre for Child Honouring, an organization focussed a “children-first way of sustainability.”
Thank you Raffi!
It was a wonderful afternoon, an excellent pause to a hectic life to reconnect with my inner child. I have been singing along with you Raffi for all of the 40 years you has been making beautiful and catchy sounds. Thank you for the smiles you on our faces, helping our kids get to sleep, teaching them about growing up, and social and environmental responsibility.
