It has been an incredibly full week since the last time I had the opportunity to provide an update. We started the week in Vancouver, where the BC NDP invited the whole BC Green Caucus, Andrew, Sonia and I, to the BC Cabinet and First Nations Leadership Gathering at the Vancouver Convention Centre.

This is a really important event as it’s the first opportunity for the new government to reset relationships with Indigenous leaders. It was a great event, and I have to acknowledge the First Nations leadership that we have in this province is outstanding. You know, Indigenous leaders do more with less resources than perhaps any other leaders in our province and it is important to acknowledge the incredible leadership that they show on a regular basis.

We were called back to the House on Friday, where Darryl Plecas, Abbotsford MLA with the BC Liberals, or I should say formerly with the BC Liberals, stepped up to be the Speaker of the House. I am grateful to Mr. Plecas for stepping up, we now have a truly independent Speaker of the House and that will allow for the stability that I think British Columbians are looking for in their government over the long term.

We did three Town Hall meetings with our MP Elizabeth May. We started on Pender on Friday, Mayne on Saturday, and as well… we are on Galiano on Sunday, it’s been a long week. And of course we were at the absolutely, outstanding annual Pride Parade on Salt Spring, what an absolutely amazing event that was.

Looking forward to the coming week, you are going to hear more about the Salt Spring Island incorporation vote, which happened on Saturday. Salt Springers voted not to incorporate, the governance conversation does continue, not only Salt Spring but as well on all the Southern Gulf Islands and the three municipalities, as well on the three municipalities on the Saanich Peninsula so stay tuned for that. And, as well we will be talking more about what I heard in the three Town Halls, and we are back in the Legislature first thing on Monday morning.

So, until next time, HIACE.
